Реферат: The article is devoted to the identification of the features of bone cutting in the nomadic environment of the Early Iron Age of Eurasia by the example of the manufacture of protective equipment parts. The methodological basis for the research of bone-cutting artifacts (cutting of raw materials, blanks and products) is a structural and technological analysis, a constructive and morphological approach and a technical and morphological analysis, involving data from tracological analysis and experimental archaeology. Horse breeding, the main branch of the nomadic economic system, was most closely connected not only with the peculiarities of the material culture of the ancient nomads, but also bone–cutting production as a resource and raw material base. The mobility of the nomadic culture was impossible without constant horse care. In this activity, one of the main operations was clipping the hooves of animals. This routine practice obviously shaped the technology of making protective shells from the walls of horse hooves among nomads. This protective equipment was described by ancient authors (Pausanias, Tacitus, Ammianus Marcellinus) and depicted in Roman monumental art (bas-reliefs of Trajan's column). In addition to these written and pictorial sources, bronze tools for clipping hooves, traces of cutting the horny surface on hoof bones and bronze replicas of carapace plates from such blanks were found in the archaeological complexes of Khakassia, Gorny Altai and Mongolia.
