Реферат: The article examines the localization of the sacred mountain of Burkhan-Khaldun in Khentei, which is sacred to Mongolian culture and where the khan’s necropolis with the burial place of Genghis Khan has been located since the 13th century. It is not known when this place was forgotten, but already at the beginning of the 14th century the guards guarding it could not point it out. Now Burkhan-Khaldun is identified with the Khentei-Khan-Uul Mountain (2362 m). It is revered as the sacred mountain of Mongolia. The records about Burkhan-Khaldun in the “Secret History” of the Mongols of 1240 and in the “Chronicles” of Rashid ad-Din of the early 14th century showed that it acquired sacred significance after the attack of the Merkits on Temujin in Burgi-ergi on the Kerulen River. Before this, its slopes were a place for Temujin’s clan to collect plants, hunt and catch fish. The geographical «signs» of Burkhan-Khaldun have been established: close and easily accessible location from the Kerulen River; the presence of a gentle southern slope; the presence of a forest on the northern slope; the presence of numerous rivers, wetlands and a lake; isolation in the landscape; the presence of an exit to the steppe. As a result of the comparison in Khentei, the Bayandelger mountain region with the high mountain Khushingiin ovoo (2221 m) was identified as the medieval Burkhan-Khaldun.
